Reunions
The 2004 reunion was extra special. It was a combined reunion
of both the WWII Crews and the later Crews. The WWII vets generously asked us
to be their guests at their reunion in Chattanooga, TN the last week of June,
2004. Everyone enjoyed the time together. Many of the Korean era and later
Whitehurst vets were honored to meet the men who brought Whitehurst home from
the big war. These men didn't seem to be much older than the rest of us. They
are as young in spirit as any of us.
Next year there will, once again, be separate reunions. max
crow Why there are two Whitehurst reunions? Most of the WWII vets who are able to attend reunions live in
the Southeast. They have long agreed to meet in Tennessee. Members
of the later crews are scattered from Hawaii to Maine, and Florida to Alaska.
At each reunion a volunteer host for the next reunion is selected.
The host chooses a reunion site relatively near his home. This
method of hosting serves to move the reunion to various parts of the country. Current Reunions The WWII Veterans' Reunion Note: The Reunion of the USS Whitehurst
WWII crew is always held on Wed - Friday of the last full week of June, in
Knoxville, TN.
